44th Board Meeting of the GCF

The Green Climate Fund is the world’s largest multilateral climate fund, serving as the operating entity of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC)’s climate finance mechanism. Established at COP16 in 2010, the Fund is governed by the GCF Board, whose members represent both developed and developing countries.

The GCF Board convenes for meetings thrice each year, along with key representatives from member countries, civil society, financial institutions, and the private sector, with the aim of facilitating multisectoral discussion and consensus-based decision-making finding effective, inclusive, and sustainable ways forward in responding to the climate crisis.

The 44th Board Meeting of the Green Climate Fund (B.44; also the first Board Meeting of 2026), will be held 25-28 March, 2026 at the GCF’s headquarters in Songdo, Incheon, South Korea. The live webcast of B.44 may be accessed through the GCF Website.

The GCF observer network of civil society, Indigenous Peoples, and local communities at B.44

The GCF observer network of civil society, Indigenous Peoples, and local communities hold preparatory meetings and engage in discussions with several governing bodies of the Green Climate Fund as part of the 44th Board Meeting (B.44) in Songdo, South Korea. Preparatory meetings serve as the venue for the network to review and discuss the different proposals and documents to be evaluated by the GCF Board during B.44, to be held March 25-28, 2026. Meanwhile, meetings with governing bodies aim to promote an effective and inclusive GCF through knowledge sharing and collaboration.
As the first Board Meeting of 2026, B.44 also marks the beginning of a new term for the network’s active observers: Tara Daniel of the Women’s Environment and Development Organization (WEDO) and Angelo Kairos dela Cruz of the Institute for Climate and Sustainable Cities will continue serving as Primary Active Observers, representing developed and developing country CSOs respectively, while Liane Schalatek of the Heinrich Böll Foundation Washington and Natalia Daza of the Interamerican Association for Environmental Defense (AIDA) will act as Alternate Active Observers.
